The Brown Bear Trail

This tour is a perfect opportunity not only for experienced hikers and other physically active people who like spending their free time in the countryside, but also for everyone who would like to experience an unforgettable time in the heart of the Dinaric forests. Your guide will pick you up at your place of accommodation sometime early in the morning or early in the afternoon (as per agreement) and take you on a jeep ride deep into the forest where you will leave the vehicle at some point. From there, you will continue on foot, following the path of the Brown bear. You will be shown places where the Brown bear stops, feeds and moves daily. You will also be shown the brown bear video footage. A climb up to the top of the Sv. Trojica (Holy Trinity) Hill at an altitude of 1106 m and Lonica at the altitude of 1123 m will follow, where you will be able to enjoy a wonderful view of the intermittent lakes all the way to the surrounding Slovenian Alps. While enjoying the view, you will be served lunch, consisting of traditional delicacies. After lunch, you will head back down through the forest, past the hunting lodge, to the tops of the Kamena hill (at the altitude of 1040 m) and Baba hill (1085 m). Again, you will be able to enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding landscape form the tops of the two hills, before you descend back to your vehicle. Recommended equipment: hiking clothes and footwear, hiking rods, rucksack, refreshments.

Meal is provided by ‘Smrekarjeva domačija’, an agrotourism farm and guesthouse, located at Grobišče, a village about 3.5 km south west of Postojna. They use organic livestock farming systems and raise autochthonous breeds of Cika cattle, pigs (black-belted pig) and donkeys. Their restaurant serves not only home cooked traditional meals and fresh-baked bread, but you can choose from a selection of homemade juices and spirits. There are five rooms and a suite available for guests.
